The path to my editorial career is rooted in a passion for knives, firearms, gear, and defensive subject matters. I have been blessed to work in these fields with some of the industry’s best writers in their respective fields. As a result, I have built a deep network of top professionals who enjoy working with me as much as I enjoy working with them.
Passion Driven Editorial
Having grown up backpacking the Colorado Rockies, I have understood the importance of a good knife since childhood. This led to a lifelong passion for edged tools and weapons. Over the years, I have carried knives in the wild places all over the United States and the Amazon Jungle.
An avid outdoorsman, my favorite patterns are the Kephart and Nessmuk for their rich history and functionality in bushcrafting. However, my tastes are very eclectic, and I have met very few knives that I didn’t like. This has led me to become a knife designer, with knives produced by TOPS Knives and more on the way.
In addition, I have also been involved with martial arts and self-defense for decades. This has included over 20 years of extensive training in Hakkoryu JuJutsu, Daitoryu Aiki JuJutsu, Mugai Ryu Iaido, Ving Tsun Kung Fu, minor studies in FMA (Filipino Martial Arts), MCOLES certification in PPCT, and combatives practices. As a self-defense instructor, I hold a practical, no-nonsense approach to self-defense and combatives, forgoing myth and theory and placing a focus on situational awareness and conflict avoidance.
I also have experience with firearms as a former long-time NRA Certified Firearms Instructor (until COVID) and held MCOLES certification in firearms. I now shoot for the love of shooting and writing about it.
This collective experience and my deep passion for these subject matters direct my work as an editor. It also drives me to deliver the best content available in the firearms, knives, gear, and defensive spaces.
