I am not going to lie. I am truly blessed to work in the field that I love. Sure, it’s work. But it is really cool work. I have had the opportunity to test some of the coolest products before they were available, and have traveled to some of the coolest places. And then I get to share it with the world, complete with pictures, like the weird couple that overshares their vacation. But I try to keep it cool and worthwhile.
Passion for the Story
As with my career as an editor, my life as a writer is born of a passion for the subject matter. Growing up backpacking the Colorado Rockies, I developed a healthy respect for good gear. I have spelunked through tight caves and hiked and backpacked at elevation. Second only to critical thinking, your gear can directly affect your experience. Gear that falls apart on a trip becomes a liability and potential safety risk.
Likewise, I have grown up around firearms and held longstanding certification as an NRA firearms instructor. However, it is the cool ranges I have had the opportunity to shoot at that are indelible in my memory forever. From potato fields in Idaho and a deluxe ranch in Wyoming to a world-class range in Italy. I have shot everything from seven yards to a mile, with multiple platforms and calibers. I have even shot a derringer in both .45-70 and .50AE.
